By Randy Maltz – Founder/Editor Silver and Blue Report & Hook ’em Report

Dallas Cowboys, Cowboys, Dallas Cowboys compensatory picks, NFL, Jerry JonesThe Dallas Cowboys just scored a big touchdown by being awarded three compensatory picks on Monday, which increases their total to 11 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.

All three of the draft selections are in the seventh round, giving the Cowboys a total of six in the final round. The Cowboys lost four players in free agency last year that qualified: Mike Jenkins, John Phillips, Victor Butler, and Kenyon Coleman. They gained one with Justin Durant.

A total of 32 compensatory choices in the 2014 NFL Draft have been awarded to 13 teams, the NFL announced today. Essentially, the compensatory-pick process pays back teams that took heavy losses in free agency the previous year. By rule, compensatory picks cannot be traded.

The first round will be held on Thursday, May 8 and begin at 7:00 PM CST. The second and third rounds are set for Friday, May 9 at 6:00 PM CST followed by
rounds 4-7 on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00 AM CST.
