2011 NFL Draft

With Marc Colombo’s future with Dallas Cowboys in doubt, there’s an opening at right tackle that first-round pick Tyron Smith will have a chance to fill as soon as he can get on the practice field.

He won’t have to wait any longer. The Cowboys and Smith came to terms on a contract Thursday that will enable Smith to join his teammates at training camp in San Antonio. According to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com, it is a four-year deal worth $12.5 million. Per LaCanfora, all of the money is guaranteed.

Smith’s signing continues a busy couple of days on the Cowboys offensive line. They re-signed unrestricted free agents Doug Free and Kyle Kosier this week and have been pruning the roster of expensive veterans like Leonard Davis.

It still remains to be seen if Colombo, who hasn’t been able to come to terms on a restructured contract, will join Davis on the open market. All signs point to his departure from the cap-challenged Cowboys and if that happens Smith will have the inside track on a starting job in his rookie year.
